Let’s all agree that going back to school stinks! Summer is such a magical time, why does it ever have to end?! Arguably, the only cool thing about going back to school is getting to pick out all your new school supplies for the year! It’s fun picking out all your new pencils, folders and paper, but it definitely can be hard finding supplies that reflect your personality and what you love. And that’s where these adorable pencil toppers come in!
Pencil toppers were always one of my favorite back to school supplies because they added a little bit of personality to what is normally just a boring old pencil! The beauty about these pencil toppers is that you can make them into whatever makes you happy! Love rainbows, unicorns and cats? Make them into toppers! They are so easy to pop on and off of whichever pencil you like, and incredibly awesome to share with friends! Read below how to make your own!
DIY Pencil Toppers
– Air Dry Clay
– Acrylic Paint
– Paint Brush
1.) Kneed and configure the clay into whatever shape you like. You can make characters and figures or just generic shapes and objects like I did.
2.) Once the shape is created, take the top end of your pencil (the eraser end) and push it through the bottom of your clay shape until most of the metal on the pencil is covered. Depending on your object shape and how hard your pressed the pencil through, you may have to rework the clay to get it back to its original shape. Leave the pencil inside the clay and allow to dry for a couple of hours until clay is stiff. Once clay is stiff, remove pencil (it will still keep it’s shape) and set clay aside to dry completely over night.
3.) Once clay is completely dry, use the acrylic paint to paint whatever color or design onto your figure as you like! Repeat coats as needed. Allow paint to dry completely.
I wish I would have thought to make these when I was in school! Not only would I have been happier to do my school work, I would have also been the most popular kid in my class! I mean who wouldn’t want to be friends with the girl that has all these awesome pencil toppers?! You know, it’s never too late… Maybe I will just use these babies at work and make all my coworkers jealous! Ha!
