THIS IS HALLOWEEN, THIS IS HALLOWEEN!!! I mean, is it even Halloween if you don’t pay homage to the Pumpkin King, himself?! This Nightmare Before Christmas costume has got to be one of my absolute favorite costumes I have ever done!

The Nightmare before Christmas has always been a family favorite! Scarlett fell in love with the movie when she was one, and has loved it ever since! So, I was incredibly excited when the girls said they wanted to be Jack and Sally this year for Halloween!
Scarlett, being the older sister, decided that she wanted to be Sally and that made Violett Jack by default! haha But she was more than happy to play the role! We actually decided to rename her character, Jackie Skellington to make it a better fit!

It is so fun that the girls are getting to an age where they are not only as excited for Halloween as I am, but also eager to pick out their costumes and dress up! We did not have to bribe them at all to take pictures this year! They were SO ready to show off their costumes!
JACK SKELLINGTON

This costume was surprisingly easy to put together! Really all it consists of is a striped suit, a bowtie and face paint!
I was lucky enough to find a black suit at the thrift store, and just used a white paint marker to paint on the pinstripes! For the bat bowtie, I cut out the shapes from stiff black felt and then used white puff paint to paint on the details. I added some velcro to the back of the bowtie so that it was easy to place and remove from the shirt! I used white body paint for her face (looks a little more white in person than it does in pictures) but decided to put on white gloves for her hands. She is only a two year old, so I knew she would be handsy, and these gloves give the illusion without her spreading paint everywhere! haha Lastly, I used the black eyeliner marker to make the stitches around her mouth and circles around her eyes! It worked great, but was a PAIN to wash off!

SALLY

This Sally costume was also incredibly easy to pull off! I originally was going to DIY her dress, but we found this adorable tutu dress at Walmart and just went with that! The quality of the dress is great and it is perfect for my daughter to wear again and again! We also purchased the wig! I think a wig is a good Halloween investment and I figured we could use it for another costume in the future. The rest of the costume purely consists of body paint! We painted her face, arms, legs and chest blue, and then used the eyeliner to draw on the stitches! That’s it!

ZERO

When creating this costume, I knew I couldn’t leave out Zero! In my heart, he is just as “main cast” as Jack and Sally! I originally thought about dressing up our family dog as Zero, but I thought a trick-or-treat bucket may be more useful!
I was not exactly sure how I was going to construct this bucket originally, so I didn’t take step-by-step pictures. It was definitely a project where I just went with the flow! haha
I bought a cheap candy bucket from Walmart and hot glued some white fabric around the perimeter. This acts as his body. For his head, I carved a styrofoam ball in the shape of his head. Once I was happy with the shape, I hot glued the same white fabric from the bucket around the styrofoam, giving it a softer appearance. For his ears and mouth, I glued craft wire in between two layers of white felt, that way I could bend them into shape. For his eyes, I cut two ovals out of black felt. And lastly, for his nose, I painted a small white foam ball to look like a jack-o-lantern. I attached all the different parts to his head with my hot glue gun, and then attached the head to the “body” as well. Finally, I finished it off with a red ribbon around his neck to act as a collar.

Do you consider The Nightmare Before Christmas a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie?? I know it is technically both, but I have always considered it more Halloween!

This child cracks me up!!

I mentioned that I made the Zero candy bucket, but we were gifted the Oogie Boogie stuffy from a family friend a couple years ago! It ended up being the perfect addition to this costume!

Cannot wait to use this wig next year for another costume! Ariel, maybe???

Not sure I will ever get over just how adorable these costumes are! The girls absolutely loved being Jack and Sally and played their roles perfectly! I cannot wait to watch them trick or treat in these costumes next week!!
