Name a more powerful couple, I’ll wait! This Mother Nature and Father Time costume has been on my mind for years, since becoming parents in fact, and I’m so excited that we were finally able to make it happen! Read along to find out how simple it is to make it yourself!

Mother Nature and Father Time are one of those universally known entities that are easily recognizable to pretty much everyone! The lore of Mother Nature and Father Time are that of life and death. Mother Nature in Greek mythology is supposed to represent mother earth and the abundance of life, where Father Time is the personification of time and the inevitability of death. Truly two of the most powerful entities known to man!
Although, the subject matter of life and death seems pretty heavy, I feel like these costumes are so light and fun! They show the beauty of both life and death and how they are perfectly complimentary to one another! You can’t have one without the other! Which makes this actually a pretty romantic couples costume if you think about it like that!

Mother Nature

I had so much fun creating this Mother Nature look! Not only is this costume simple, and beautiful, it oddly made me feel very powerful when putting it on! I mean what is more powerful than Mother Nature herself?! Definitely felt like a goddess in this costume! Being a redhead, I feel extra powerful/confident in the color green anyway, so this costume gave me such a confident boost! haha

This mother nature costume is so simple to create! Just needs a little time to assemble! All I knew is that I wanted to have a green/mossy dress filled with plant life and butterflies! This costume would also be beautiful completely covered in flowers!
MOTHER NATURE DRESS
Supplies:
– Dress
– Faux Plants
– Butterflies
– Hot Glue Gun
How To:
1.) Determine how saturated you would like your dress to be. Do you want it completely covered in plants? Only partially? In a pattern? All of this is totally up to you!
2.) Once you have planned out how you would like your dress to look, all you have to do is simply hot glue it onto your dress! As simple as that!

Father Time

This Father Time costume is honestly one of the easiest costumes I have ever thought to do! As soon as my husband put on the wig, beard and robe he looked just like him! All we needed to do was to create a few props to really sell the look!

When we were brainstorming what Father Time would look like to us, we knew we definitely needed to make an hourglass! Father time is usually depicted as the grim reaper, and usually carries a scythe as well, but I didn’t want our version to be as dark, so we decided that we could also make a pocket watch for him to carry around!
HOURGLASS
Supplies:
– Round Wood Discs x 2
– Wooden Dowel Rod(s)
– Gold Spray Paint
– Super Glue
– Glass/Plastic Cups/Bowls x 2
– Sand
– Nails
How To:
1.) Glue together your cups with super glue. One cup will need to be upside down, and you will glue the two bottoms together. Allow time to dry. Once dry, you can pour sand inside.
2.) Next you will need to determine the length that you will need to cut your dowel rods in order for them to fit between your wooden discs. The best way to determine this length is to measure the length of your stacked cups, and then cut that exact measurement in the dowel rods 4 times. Resulting in 4 identical cut dowel rod pieces.
3.) After you cut your dowel rods, you will need to spray paint them, and your two wooden discs gold.
4.) Next you will assemble. The wooden discs will be placed on the top and bottom of the your glass cups. You can use super glue to help keep them in place. Next you will insert the dowel rods along the outside of the cups on 4 different sides. You can use the super glue to keep these in place too, but we opted to put a couple nails through the dowel rods so that our hourglass was super stable.
POCKET WATCH
Supplies:
– Wooden Clock Face
– Paper Plates x 2
– Gold Spray Paint
– Hot Glue Gun/Super Glue
– Cardboard
How To:
1.) The best first step would be to create your “chain” from your cardboard. Cut thin strips of cardboard and link them together using a hot glue gun.
2.) Next you will need to spray paint the chain link, and both paper plates gold.
3.) Once the spray paint has dried, glue the wooden clock face onto the inside of one of the paper plates. You will also need to glue the other paper plate on top, but make sure to only glue one small side (like a hinge) so that you can “open” the pocket watch.
4.) Lastly you will need to glue your chain link to the pocket watch to finish off the look!
